Need a good book to read? “Cinder” by Marissa Meyer, “The 5 Wave” by Rick Yancey and “Just One Day” by Gayle Forman are three books that the Reference Librarian Courtney Hicks recommends for students to read.
“These are three great books we have at the library, and if these don’t interest anyone, I will happily help someone find a book that he/she will love. The Ranger Book Club read “Cinder” in the spring of 2014 and everyone loved it,” Hicks said.
Summary of “Cinder:” Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . . Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg.
Summary of “The 5 Wave:” After the first wave, only darkness remains. After the second, only the lucky escape. And after the third, only the unlucky survive. After the fourth wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the fifth wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see, who have scattered Earth’s last survivors.
Summary of “Just One Day:” From the author of “If I Stay.” A life upended in one day turns into a year of self-discovery as sheltered American good girl Allyson embarks on a journey to break free from a lifetime of limits in order to find her true passions, and maybe even a true love.
