At this event, Dr. Jason Walton will be honored as the Alumnus of the Year for Northwest.
Also, six new inductees will be added to the Northwest Sports Hall of Fame. Receiving the awards are Galen Young (men’s basketball), Marc Dukes (men’s basketball coach), Andre Rone (football), Jack Robertson (rodeo), Joe Boyles (four-sport athlete) and Nikita Taylor (women’s basketball). These athletes are being rewarded for their outstanding hard work and talent in their sport.
The Homecoming queens and maids will be announced during halftime at the football game. Elections for Homecoming court will be held Sept. 21 -23 electronically.
There will be two maids picked from each Northwest campus, one freshman and one sophomore. The sophomore from each campus with the most votes will be pronounced the 2015 Homecoming Queen. Students will be sent voting directions through their Northwest email account.
“I’m so excited to perform at the game as a Rangerette,” Kendall Elaine McCoy, a sophomore studying nursing from Olive Branch, said. “I would be honored to be voted onto Homecoming court and have the chance to represent my school.”
This year, Liesl Mote is also conducting Homecoming events, including an upcoming carnival. The carnival is scheduled to be outside the McLendon Center on Sept. 30, from 4 to 8 p.m.
“We’re excited to see the turnout this year,” Mote says about the carnival.
The carnival will have food, games and activities for students. Be sure to bring your student ID to all school events for free entry.
The Northwest DeSoto Center in Southaven will be giving away free burgers, chips and drinks on the front lawn on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to support the Rangers.
